Car Raid Final

I had recently raided the car of my mother, Mary Lopez, who has a 2017 Lexus ES 350.

I asked her how long she had this car for.

"I have had this car for two years." she said.

I then had the urge to ask her why she picked this car compared to others she had seen.

"I picked this car because of its durability and safety."

"Why did you want this car for its durability?" I asked.

"I like my things to last me longer."

Then I asked which item she must have with her often.

"Of what you see here?" she had asked."Yeah" I responded.

Mary then said "It would have to be my GPS".

"Why would it be your GPS?"

"It would take me anywhere that I want to go".

I then asked her about why she had a bunch of ponchos in her trunk.

"In case it rains and because I have employees that sometimes don't have a umbrella and they can use one of mine".

"What about the cooler that is next to the ponchos. Why do you have that?"

"Same thing, I like to keep water for my employees since they work outside and it gets hot".

Sports Portfolios

Part 1 - Portfolios

1. Watch 4 of the 11 Runner-up videos, and answer the following on your blog for each:

a. Name of photographer - Alyssa Schukar
b. General focus of portfolio - Eating disorders and just sports
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio?
They said the only thing that was missing was the eating disorder stories. They also said that they want to see more of the big stuff being shown in the stories because almost everything is the same lens and feel. Another thing is that there isn't any strong symbols in the photos.
d. List two things the judges like -
They liked the girl that fell over the hurdles and the kids in the stairway photo.
e.  What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
- My overall impression of the photographer was that they are pretty good at capturing a deep feel/emotion. I liked just looking at the photos in general, they actually made me feel something rather than it just being a regular picture of anything and doesn't show any emotion. I can also tell what is happening in the photo which is another thing that I really liked about the photo.

a. Name of photographer - Nick Adams
b. General focus of portfolio - Life isn't easy
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio?
They did not like how the photo of the cheerleaders are out of focus and how the leg is cut off in the background. They believe there should be a limit on how many photos there are with kids who are handicapped. Also they didn't like how this picture with a football player that is in black and white has one of the players head's cut off.
d. List two things the judges like -
They liked the photo with the cheerleaders and the silhouettes photo
e.  What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
-My overall impression of the photographer is decent. I noticed that most of his photos was just pictures of children with each photo being a different emotion. Which does stand out but it didn't exactly appeal to me as much.

a. Name of photographer - Justin Mott
b. General focus of portfolio - Glimpse into reality and toughness
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio?
The second photo was not in focus so they did not like it.  Also they like how the photographer is trying something different, from the point of views they take the photos in. He doesn't like the picture with someones hand grabbing some tools, they don't believe it tells a story.
d. List two things the judges like -
They also like the photo where there was a dead pig on the ground with a fire in the background. Also they like how the photographer is trying something different, from the point of views they take the photos in
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
- My overall impression of the photographer is good because I liked how each photo had conveyed a feeling that can only be felt if you understand and just look past the surface of the photo. There was nothing that I did not like about the photo, I loved all of their photos.

a. Name of photographer - Melissa Golden
b. General focus of portfolio - Elders and young kids
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio?
They think that some of the photos are messy. Also they don't like how there is unwanted items in the photos. Also another problem for them is seeing the same story over again.
d. List two things the judges like -
They like the photo with the old man zoomed up close with a oxygen tube going through his nose. They liked the picture with the guy sliding into a baseball base.
e.  What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
- My overall impression of the photographer is decent because I understand that the people in the photo didn't go through things much differently than each other. They are both at different ages but from different time periods. I didn't exactly like how they had the children just do playful things, they could have took or added pictures that are meaningful as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Watch the winning portfolio critique (Dustin Snipes)
a. What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it?
They liked the composition and color of most photos. Also how overall the photos are and the angling.
b. What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
- Yes, I did see some weaknesses. They had some cut offs in some of the photos which isn't well if you are having your photos judged. I believe the strengths would be the angles and how they decided to take the photo. As if they were actually running or moving with the athletes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

3. Watch the contest recap video at the very bottom
a. Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner
-  They each bring up the photos that they individually liked then the other judges would give their opinion on it. If the other judges did not like it then they would move on to the next image and it just goes on and on through this process. Along with comparing the photos to the other photos to see if their photos match with the rest of their portfolio.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Part 2 - Individual Images
1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it.
- I agree with the judges when they were critiquing the person with in 3rd place about his black and white sports photos. It did seem like he was waiting/relying on taking the perfect photo at the perfect time that he thought was right, because otherwise they would shoot any type of photo of them doing any type of pose.
2. Describe one photo that you DO NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.
- I don't like how they liked the picture of the girl getting attacked by a swan/duck. It tells a story but otherwise I don't really like the photo. I don't exactly believe it tells a story, its just her showing a disgusted/irritated emotion towards the animal.
Car Raid Plan
1. I would be doing my car raid with my older brother most likely.
2. I will most likely do this car raid next week as this week is very heavily busy for me since I have been doing all nighters just to finish up assignments and such.
3. Write 4-5 questions you can use to start this interview
- How long have you had this car since you had first got it?
- Has there been any great memories that you have had in this car?
- Can you tell me why each of these items are in your car?
- Do you really need to have these items that are currently in your car, IN your car?
4. I would try to explain what they are pointing or showing me when they actually show me the items that are in there car. In other words I would be using imagery to explain what is happening in this situation.
Landscape
1. Where is one place on the internet you might go to better prepare yourself for the location you are shooting at.
Google maps or even google earth because it can show you different landscape views of that place. So you can get a better idea of what to expect from the terrain or the place from higher up and such.
2. What is one app you might download to help you when trying to pick the best angle to take landscape photos?
Google maps can help with the different angles since some of them are even from the higher view.
3. What is the biggest problem shooting with a zoom or telephoto lens?
The biggest problem shooting with a zoom or telephoto lens is making the scene seem more simplified depending on how distant the subject is from the lens/camera.
4.Instead of using the HDR method you learned in my class, what is another technique the website suggest would be acceptable for compensating for sky and ground?
You can take two separate shots with one having the sky exposed along with brighter areas. Then the other would be the land and darker areas. Other then that there is the ND grad filter which captures the detail in both the sky and the landscape.
5. List three things you should always carry in case of bad weather.
A strong, waterproof plastic bag so you can quickly cover the camera if it starts to rain. Cleaning cloths for the lens glass and filters, along with a microfibre towel for drying off the camera body and lens.
6. Why would pre-scouting help you when shooting?
It can help you know the area before hand and when it is a good time to take a photo in the area instead of waiting all day for the perfect or almost perfect photo.
7. Is subject or composition more important in landscape photography, WHY?
Composition is more important in landscape photography because it is what makes the photo whole and more in depth. It allows there to be a strong landscape instead of a boring one. It is essential to this type of photography.
8. What is the suggested procedure to create simple, yet striking images?
You decide which part of the scene is essential to the composition and include other elements on the main subject one at a time. Then check if all the elements of the scene work together and if the main element is still what your eye is drawn to.
9. Why black and white?
It can produce a very different result compared to the pictures in color. It takes on a different approach to produce the final image.
10. Why would you want to go back to a location you have already been?
To learn more about how the lighting and weather combine to lend a different look to the landscape.
11. Find three landscape images that you like and post them with this blog.
Merger Photo
1.    If the camera ends up moving a bit then the alignment can be off and the photo can become blurry.  Or it could just end up looking  uneven and would be messed up
2.    I believe the track would be a good place to take this type of picture
3.    I could probably make a falling motion so like a merged photo of someone falling. It would look cool and can be dramatic at the same time if done right.
4.    I could wear something that shows my figure more, so maybe a dress or something athletic. Just something that can make the photo more dramatic and deep at the same time.
HDR Photography
reflection
Keith Doucet - Balancing Rock
1.  You would need to change your camera settings between each shot, which increases the chance of moving the camera. Also the amount of time it takes to shoot the photo which the subject can move or change positions in the meanwhile.
2. You will need a tripod or other type of stabilizer because you will have trouble aligning your photos if you don't.
3. Someone might take a HDR photo to make money from it or to just save the moments of what's happening in real life through the camera lens. Which means that you can cherish and also look back on the memory you saw/made at that moment.
4. If you merge the photos, it will add more depth to the original/first photo. We will be able to see more meaning and more depth in the photos and the photo itself would just be great to look at.
Final Exam Preview
1. Explain your experiences with creating videos. Anything counts, facebook live, youtube, vine, tiktok, snapchat, insta, ect.
I have experience with using youtube and creating videos on the platform. I know how to edit and such but it isn't too well since I don't make videos often. I only use it to see where my progress is for doing something that I want to try and improve on.
2. What do you think the biggest differences you might encounter using a DSLR or GoPro compared to your phone.
The biggest different I think I might encounter is having to figure out how it works because I have no clue at all and compared to my phone, I already know how to use it very well. Also the fact that for GoPro and DSLR you can't tell where it is aiming at while on your phone you do because you can control it.
3. Now that you know what your assignment is, please list at least three ideas you have for creating video.
I would most likely create a video about  my newest pet in the household to see what he does in his free time or just throughout his day. But also it would be cool to create a video about kids playing on a playground or even just a time-lapse of a long hike or traveling experience throughout the day.
4. I could probably email it to myself or screenshot it so that the photo will become a still image.
5. To explain the music I will be using or playing, explain a photo that is complicated and just a thank you audio of myself at the end.
Personal Essays
1. What was one idea that the writer gave in the Wide Range of Topics section that you can use as you start deciding on a topic?
  • You can write about something you care strongly about so the readers can know how you feel and understand where you're coming from
2. What was one idea the writer gave in the Opinions Pieces section that you should remember as you are writing your piece?
  • Avoiding abstract expressions as you are writing opinion pieces because you don't want to bore the reader with generalizations. You want to pull them in with details instead.
3. List three suggestions the writer makes in the Personal Essays and Crafts section that you will use as you write.
  • Writing essays in a great way to get your opinions off your chest, but avoid philosophical rants which make no connection to your reader’s experience. Again, keep it personal while relating to a wider world
  • The hook is the device you use to get your reader’s attention. It’s the doorway through which you welcome and orient them to the piece. Try using:
  1. A question. (“When was the last time you went without a meal?”)
  2. A quotation from someone famous or something you’ve read/overhead. (“Be careful” were the last words my father said to me each time I left the house.)
  3. A strong statement that your essay will either support or dispute. (“If you eat enough cabbage, you’ll never get cancer.”)
  4. A metaphor. (“The starlings in my back garden are the small boys in the playground, impressing each other with their new-found swear words. The crows all belong to the same biker gang. You need to know their secret sign to join their club.”)
  5. A description of a person or setting. (“Michael once mowed the lawns around Municipal Hall wearing a frilly apron, high heels and nylons, with a pillow stuffed under his sweater so he looked pregnant. And it wasn’t even Halloween.”)
  • Personal essays by definition contain a personal perspective. You should be there. Watch your construction. If every sentence begins “I”, you need to rephrase to provide a better rhythm and pace to your piece.
SoM
Jessie, who is a freshman, has been named Student of the Month at James Bowie High School for her outstanding abilities to balance everything given to her and for having amazing grades during the month of February and March. She had already became the baseball manager and helps out a National Charity whenever she can.
In the month of February and March, Jessie had gotten Student of the Month at Bowie High School for having outstanding grades and fantastic abilities since she had worked hard and gave her all into everything she had done so far.
Freshman Jessie was recently named Student of the Month by Bowie administration, teacher and staff for her outstanding performance and skills.
"We chose Jessie for student of the month because she has outstanding grades, is the baseball manager at school, and helps out a charity organization," principle Mark Robinson said.
She had gotten Student of the Month at James Bowie High School for staying on top of everything at James Bowie High School during the month of February till March. She had mentioned that due to having perfect attendance, she didn't have to worry about missing any school work which is why her grades are so high.
"Jessie was always on top of everything we gave her and we respect that about her, she deserved to be student of the month in my opinion," english teacher Charles Robin said.
During this six week period that happened during the months of February and March, Jesse had felt very confident with how everything was going for her at school and even outside of school since she likes to plan for things ahead of time.
"Yes, I would consider myself successful," Jesse said
The administration, teachers and staff believed Jesse was outstanding compared to the other students because she had done so much ever since she first got to this high school. She seems to even enjoy her home life almost as much as she enjoys her school one.
""I would say my school life is a solid 90, and my real life to be a 98." freshman Jesse said.
School Uniforms
1. List three different sources you could interview for this topic
(I am going to go by sources as people to interview because I don't know what the question is asking for specifically)
  • I would interview the head of all the teachers. So the principle, assistant principles and the counselors for this topic
  • The parents of the students that are going to this school because I am very positive they would be the most concerned about what the students are deciding to wear for/to school.
  • The students because they have to be able and be comfortable but also be able to be active and concentrate on themselves rather than what people are wearing and how it is distracting them.
2. Create 20 questions you could ask each source and post them on your blog. It will be the same 20 questions for each, so only have to think of 20 total questions
  1. How do you feel about the current situation with the school uniforms?
  2. If you are fine with it, why? If not, what is the reason you are not.
  3. How would you want to deal with the current situation?
  4. Do you think the others at the school are fine with the way the student's are dressing?
  5. Do you feel the other students are fine with being restricted on what to wear at school?
  6. Should the students be able to wear whatever they want freely?
  7. If so, don't you think that their would still be some inappropriate pieces of clothing that they shouldn't wear?
  8. If not, what pieces of clothing do you believe the students shouldn't wear and which ones would be consider fine or good.
  9. Do you believe the students should have a say in what should be worn and what shouldn't be?
  10. Why do you think the district is wanting to enforce the school uniforms on students?
  11. Do you believe it is a fair reason to just do that to the students?
  12. If a student were not able to wear their uniform because something bad happened to it, should they be allowed to get a free uniform for the time being?
  13. If so, how come? If not, wouldn't you think the student would end up wearing something that is found rude or not within the uniform rules?
  14. If you were apart of the district, what would you do to make sure that everyone involved is fine with the way that they are enforcing their rules?
  15. Do you think think everyone would be fine in the end of all of this?
  16. Has your view about this situation or topic change after the questions you have been asked so far?
  17. If they have been changed, can you please explain to me why or how it's been changed? If they have not then can you tell me everything you would do to make sure things are right.
  18. We are asking everyone involved in this to give us their opinions on what they think about all of this, what do you believe the other students, parents, or the head of the school think about this policy?
  19. As we are reaching the end of the questions, we would like to ask you, are you glad that we got your input about the school board deciding to create a district wide policy of enforcing school uniforms?
  20. Finally, are you relieved we have finally reached the end of these questions?
Architecture Preview #1
Atomium, Belgium
1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)?
The architects that built it were Jean Polak and Adré Polak
2. When was it built?
It was first built in 1957
3. Where is it located?
It is located in Brussels, Belgium
4. Is it a private building or can you visit it?
You can visit it but not all the spheres are available to everyone
5. Is there information on how much it cost to build?
It costs €26 million
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself?
It was built for the 1958 World's Fair.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)
I picked this building because I really love how unique the structure of the building is. It looks really cool at night too and it makes me curious how you get to each sphere, specifically the three towards the top. It doesn't look like you could just go up it too easily, it's too skinny to be able to do that but other than that it just caught my attention because of the appearance.
The Longaberger Company (The Basket Building), United States
1. The architect of this building is designed by NBBJ and Korda Nemeth, but the founder was Dave Longaberger who operates his own business called the Longaberger Company.
2. It was built in 1973
3. It is located near Dresden, Ohio.
4. You can get a tour of the place and probably get good deals on the baskets they sell for a pretty good size too
5. It cost $1.2 million and the back taxes excess of $800,000
6.It was built to represent the company's biggest seller, the Longaberger Medium Market Basket.
7. I picked this building because it's a giant basket. It is very rare for someone to build and work in a place that resembles something so simple. It's unordinary and I like it for that reason. It's like their the ants trying to get the food out of the basket, which is money because that's what they get paid with.
Cubic Houses, Netherlands
1. The architect is Piet Blom
2. It was designed in 1977 but the first test houses were built in 1975. and the official houses was first built in 1982.
3. It is located in Rotterdam, Netherlands
4. If you take the tour of the houses then you could see them, otherwise you can't just freely roam around because you want to.
5. The average cost to build new rental property was 233 euro per cubic meter, but as of 2019 it increased seven percent.
6. It was created to solve the urban planning problem
7. I picked this building because I found it pretty neat that their is such houses that look like this. It makes me curious on how the people who rent out the places or live in them work around the slantness of the houses. It would be like climbing a tree and it seems pretty hard to find a way how to sleep or even figure out how to work things out. Its just interesting in general which is why I picked this building.
Nord LB building, Germany
1. The architect is Behnisch Architekten
2. It was built in 2002 but was established in 1765
3. It is located in Hanover, Germany
4. They allow visitors but only a certain amount, so not too many people can visit at once.
5. It doesn't mention how much it costs but it said that it had a advantage to low construction costs.
6. It was created the way it was because they didn't believe in doing a formal up and down building. They wanted their designs for everything in the building and outside of the building to be very complex and unique.
7. I picked this building because I liked how it breaks regulations by having the individual building parts face in different directions. It looks weird but also cool at the same time which is why I picked it just because of those reasons. Its unique and complex then any other business building.
Burj Al Arab, Dubai, UAE
1. The architect is Tom Wright
2. The building was built in 1994
3. It is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
4. You have to be a guest of the hotel in order to visit, otherwise you can't get in unless you paid to get in.
5. It cost $650 million to build
6. It was created to become the word's first 7star hotel, offering a luxury experience that was truly unique.
7. I picked this building because I liked how it has the form of a sail at the top of the building. It looks pretty cool in my opinion, which is the main reason why I picked this photo, also because I liked it more than the other places that I was able to choose from.
Sensory Overload (Warm-Up)
1. The last sentence of the story says
"I believe that more and more, we are defining our environments not as the spaces themselves, in terms of the buildings or architecture, but rather by the objects and devices that we buy and surround ourselves with. ...I would like that message to carry through universally," Seymour said.
I agree with what he is saying in the statement up above. The main reason why is because whenever we walk into a place, the first thing we notice is what are surroundings are and usually there is a reason that you are going to that place or that you are entering there. Which is the main reason on why I agree with Seymour and what he is saying. As a aspiring photographer it makes me feel a tad confused and it just has me thinking because when it comes to photography most people or photographers who do this for a living don't always focus on the items itself, their is a reason why they call most of them architecture photographers and such. They mainly focus on the architecture of the building instead of the items that are inside.
2. When you looked through the images, did you want to visit this place and take your camera?
Well I did want to visit those places because there is a lot of adorable toys, the one that I would want to take the camera to visit and take photos is the one with loads of flowers surrounding a young woman. But that's about it.
3. What do you think it would be like to be the child of someone who worked at this place?
I believe it would be fun to just hang around places like those. To be able and surround yourself by toys and just loads of colorful items would honestly be the best thing in the world, well maybe for a kid because they are very curious about many things.
4. Describe your favorite photo to me
There are loads of colorful inflatable balls and ridable horses or donkeys to play with and towards the bottom right there is smaller balls and some stuff animals that are decently sized (not too big and not too small)
