Architecture Preview #1

Atomium, Belgium

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)?

The architects that built it were Jean Polak and Adré Polak
2. When was it built?
It was first built in 1957
3. Where is it located?

It is located in Brussels, Belgium
4. Is it a private building or can you visit it?

You can visit it but not all the spheres are available to everyone
5. Is there information on how much it cost to build?

It costs €26 million
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself?
It was built for the 1958 World's Fair.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)

I picked this building because I really love how unique the structure of the building is. It looks really cool at night too and it makes me curious how you get to each sphere, specifically the three towards the top. It doesn't look like you could just go up it too easily, it's too skinny to be able to do that but other than that it just caught my attention because of the appearance.

The Longaberger Company (The Basket Building), United States

1. The architect of this building is designed by NBBJ and Korda Nemeth, but the founder was Dave Longaberger who operates his own business called the Longaberger Company.

2. It was built in 1973
3. It is located near Dresden, Ohio.
4. You can get a tour of the place and probably get good deals on the baskets they sell for a pretty good size too
5. It cost $1.2 million and the back taxes excess of $800,000
6.It was built to represent the company's biggest seller, the Longaberger Medium Market Basket.
7. I picked this building because it's a giant basket. It is very rare for someone to build and work in a place that resembles something so simple. It's unordinary and I like it for that reason. It's like their the ants trying to get the food out of the basket, which is money because that's what they get paid with.

Cubic Houses, Netherlands

1. The architect is Piet Blom

2. It was designed in 1977 but the first test houses were built in 1975. and the official houses was first built in 1982.
3. It is located in Rotterdam, Netherlands
4. If you take the tour of the houses then you could see them, otherwise you can't just freely roam around because you want to.
5. The average cost to build new rental property was 233 euro per cubic meter, but as of 2019 it increased seven percent.
6. It was created to solve the urban planning problem
7. I picked this building because I found it pretty neat that their is such houses that look like this. It makes me curious on how the people who rent out the places or live in them work around the slantness of the houses. It would be like climbing a tree and it seems pretty hard to find a way how to sleep or even figure out how to work things out. Its just interesting in general which is why I picked this building.

Nord LB building, Germany

1. The architect is Behnisch Architekten

2. It was built in 2002 but was established in 1765
3. It is located in Hanover, Germany
4. They allow visitors but only a certain amount, so not too many people can visit at once.
5. It doesn't mention how much it costs but it said that it had a advantage to low construction costs.
6. It was created the way it was because they didn't believe in doing a formal up and down building. They wanted their designs for everything in the building and outside of the building to be very complex and unique.
7. I picked this building because I liked how it breaks regulations by having the individual building parts face in different directions. It looks weird but also cool at the same time which is why I picked it just because of those reasons. Its unique and complex then any other business building.

Burj Al Arab, Dubai, UAE

1. The architect is Tom Wright

2. The building was built in 1994
3. It is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
4. You have to be a guest of the hotel in order to visit, otherwise you can't get in unless you paid to get in.
5. It cost $650 million to build
6. It was created to become the word's first 7star hotel, offering a luxury experience that was truly unique.
7. I picked this building because I liked how it has the form of a sail at the top of the building. It looks pretty cool in my opinion, which is the main reason why I picked this photo, also because I liked it more than the other places that I was able to choose from.

Sensory Overload (Warm-Up)

1. The last sentence of the story says

"I believe that more and more, we are defining our environments not as the spaces themselves, in terms of the buildings or architecture, but rather by the objects and devices that we buy and surround ourselves with. ...I would like that message to carry through universally," Seymour said.

I agree with what he is saying in the statement up above. The main reason why is because whenever we walk into a place, the first thing we notice is what are surroundings are and usually there is a reason that you are going to that place or that you are entering there. Which is the main reason on why I agree with Seymour and what he is saying. As a aspiring photographer it makes me feel a tad confused and it just has me thinking because when it comes to photography most people or photographers who do this for a living don't always focus on the items itself, their is a reason why they call most of them architecture photographers and such. They mainly focus on the architecture of the building instead of the items that are inside.

2. When you looked through the images, did you want to visit this place and take your camera?

Well I did want to visit those places because there is a lot of adorable toys, the one that I would want to take the camera to visit and take photos is the one with loads of flowers surrounding a young woman. But that's about it.

3. What do you think it would be like to be the child of someone who worked at this place?

I believe it would be fun to just hang around places like those. To be able and surround yourself by toys and just loads of colorful items would honestly be the best thing in the world, well maybe for a kid because they are very curious about many things.

4. Describe your favorite photo to me

There are loads of colorful inflatable balls and ridable horses or donkeys to play with and towards the bottom right there is smaller balls and some stuff animals that are decently sized (not too big and not too small)

Sports Warm-Up

WARM-UP

Why is this part of a winning sports photography portfolio?
It's part of it because they are most likely celebrating their win, so they are dumping a water container on their coach.

What is the shutter speed?
The shutter speed must be very slow because your able to see the trail of the water which is hard to take pictures of.

Is this a key moment?
Most likely because its them celebrating, and we know this due to the first question mentioning that it is a part of a winning sports photography portfolio.

Could this have been planned?
No because the coach or referee doesn't seem to notice or show any clue of what is happening to him at that exact moment. Plus their is a giant crowd behind them so I doubt it. But I mean they came up with a plan to dump it on him without him knowing so yes and no. But no to it being staged/planned.

What advanced techniques are present in this photo?
Either fast paced shutter speed or very slow speed shutter speed making the water show its trails in the photo for a certain period of time. You can see each little droplet of water which most people can't usually get or else it would be a blur.
