Self portrait vs selfie

What is a selfie?
A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media

What is a self-portrait?
A portrait that an artist produces of themselves

Is there a difference? If so, what?
The selfie inherently replaceable and even disposable and doesn't have much thought put into it while a portrait has more thought put into it. They also allow discussion to become active. While self portraits is like a document that is for you that will stay with you much longer. They allow you to express how you really are.

What style do you prefer? Why?
I prefer a portrait because I love putting thought into photo, it can make it seem both lively and or not staged. While for a selfie it is mainly just posing and just thinking about if it looks good or not. But other than that I feel self portraits can have more passion put into it and will end up actually looking good if you put some thought put into it unlike with a selfie.

Is one more valuable/important than the other? Why?
Yes, Portraits are more important since they allow you to look back and see how much you have changed as oneself. It stays with you to the end and people usually hang them up on the wall unlike selfies. With selfies they either go on social media or are kept between oneself and the phone.

Phobia Project

A)   What is a phobia?
an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.

B)   List and define 5 phobias from the phobia listen

  • Chiraptophobia- Fear of being touched.
  • Kakorrhaphiophobia- Fear of failure or defeat.
  • Nebulaphobia- Fear of fog.
  • Thalassophobia- Fear of the sea.
  • Emetophobia- Fear of vomiting.

C. Brainstorm on your blog possible ideas for you Phobia photo

Chiraptophobia- Fear of being touched:

I would shoot the phobia of being touched and I would have myself, my family or my cousins model for me. I would show the phobia by showing a person running away from a reached out hand or maybe just someone on the ground backing away as much as they can from the hands or people reaching out towards them. I would shoot these images in public most likely, i'm not exactly sure yet but yeah.

Hylophobia- Fear of forests.

I would shoot the phobia of forests and I would have myself or a friend model for me. I would show the phobia by being in a forest, screaming and crying while knees on the ground or maybe just running away deeper into the forest without knowing so. I would most likely of course shoot it in a forest because thats the fear.

Isolophobia- Fear of solitude, being alone.

I would shoot the phobia of solitude, being alone and I would have myself or a cousin model for me. I would show the phobia by having someone be in the corner of a room crying to themself while sitting on the ground while still showing the rest of the room to show that they are alone/by themself.

D. What photographic techniques can you use to help highlight you images? Come up with one idea for each of your three photos you will take.

Fear of being touched- Black and white photography

Fear of forests- Lens flare effects or maybe panoramic if I can?

Fear of solitude, being alone- Night photography

Welcome back 2019!

The reason this is one of the three photos that is my favorite for the year is mainly because I like how the hump-back whale is sorta waving in the picture. Compared to the rest the whale is much bigger, like a giant compared to the people on the boat.

The reason this is one of the three photos that is my favorite of the year is mainly because I like the way the sky differs from the barn itself. I love how your able to see the stars in the sky, in most photos its pretty difficult to get them to show up but its most likely with a professional camera so it would make sense why I turned out so good.

The reason why this photo is one of the three photos that is my favorite is mainly because I love the fiery background. Also the fact that the main sticks out in the photo just makes it much better, it makes the photo a bit more in depth.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was the best song of 2018?
High Hopes - Panic! At the Disco
The reason why I chose this as my main choice was because the song itself is just like a pumped up song. It's something that you can jam out to when your sad, in the mood, or just up to party. I feel it was best for 2018 because as said in the title of the song "high hopes", the new year that was coming then, was giving everyone "high hopes" to change themselves and to just try to get themselves together unlike the other years in the past.
2. What was the best movie of 2018?
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
The reason why I chose this as my main choice is because the movie itself was just entertaining in general. This movie attracted me because the other jurassic park movies really interest me so when this movie had came out it automatically just brought me in (attracted me). It was the best of 2018 because the jurassic park movies don't come out to often and when it did come out, it was a really good movie.
3. What was the most important news story of the year?
President George H.W. Bush passing away
The reason why I chose this because when most people heard that he had passed away and was going to rest in Texas, most people were grateful and thankful for all the things he has done for us when he was the president during his time. I was attracted to this because I remember watching on the news, where exactly he was going to get buried and such. It was the most important because he did so much for the U.S and we are all grateful for him.
4. Who was the most important person of 2018 in your opinion?
I would have to say any family that was separated from their loved ones have to be the most important and strongest. I believe so because not everyone deals with having to be away from your family or loved ones, and its hard since they can't have anyone to support them when they need it at the place that they are staying at. This attracted me since I understand how the struggle is for all those people who have to go through it in their lives.
5. What was the biggest sports OR entertainment story OR sports/entertainment person of 2018, I leave this one to you to find a photo for.
The United States Supreme Court legalizes sports gambling for me would have to be a major 2018 entertainment story that has happened so far. I feel it was a very big things that happened for Americans since most people like to bet on which team would win and such and due to that people can make loads of profit or just lose it. Which is the reason why I think its the best of 2018 (in america).
1. One thing I would for sure remember from the holiday break was buying and wrapping loads of presents. It was so tiring, and its one of the worst things about Christmas due to loads of other people shopping for christmas presents late. Also the wrapping was bad too because if you didn't get the right type of wrapping paper then it will just tear and it's just horrible in general. But other then that I got a new instrument and lighting for my room. The instrument was a kalimba which is a african thumb piano and it just sounds so gorgeous.
2. What are your resolutions for 2019 year?
My resolutions for the 2019 year is to try and improve my family situation and see if we can try to cut down on the arguments we have daily. Other than that I want to try and become a better drawer/painter and keep up with the friends that I used to talk to back then.
3. What are you looking forward in 2019?
I'm mainly looking forward to just getting a new slate to just start over and become a better person, last year was a complicated year and everything went downhill for me, those were dark times and I want to try and improve from those days and change it.
Extra Credit
1. The man who in the picture was going to get killed by a subway got pushed by a panhandler who was harassing passerby's. The photographer who took the picture was able to take the picture because when he had failed helping the man, he decided to use the flash on the camera as a way to let the subway driver know that their was a man on the tracks.
2. He said he took the photo because he was trying to get the attention of the conductor of the subway train so that he would know that their is someone on the tracks. But he did that because he had failed trying to help out the man.
3. I don't think the photographer should have taken the photo because even if he failed to help him out, he could have kept on trying until the man was free from death coming his way on the tracks. It's not right for him to just take a photo and publish it for everyone to see.
4. I don't think he did the best thing for this situation because he could have tried more than once
 just in case their was a chance that that man can be saved from doom. But he didn't so I guess he
picked the worst thing to do in this type of situation.
5. I disagree with his decision to put it on the front page of New York Post because he is showing
what happened seconds before the death of a innocent man. Which he can get backlash from since it
will make him seem like he didn't help him out or that he is a horrible person.
6. Stopping the bad from happening because when you take pictures of life as it happen, yes it can
 be satisfying to look at again in your life but saving people's life from bad things is much more
satisfying since you will forever be in the depth of that person's heart cause you were willing to
 help them or save them.
7. Well it depends if the people in the photo wants the picture or not, if not then it is
unacceptable because they don't want their privacy to be invaded by some random
 photographer taking pictures to sell or show off to others.
8. They should avoid it because the events won't be as natural and it would seem all staged.
It isn't as worth it when you take pictures of influencing events as it is real events since they
happen naturally.
9. Being ashamed of not trying his best to help the person from his death. Since he just
 stood their taking a picture of the man.
